no. 01 Case studies

Switching stories, by year group.

Knock publishes switching stories drawn from interviews and from published UK parent testimony. Some are clearly labelled composite (a typical Year-7 first week, built from multiple sources, names invented), some are real families who have given consent for their account to be named. Every story marks which it is at the top. The site launched in May 2026 and the first real-family case studies arrive summer 2026; in the meantime the cards below are composite, labelled placeholder, and excluded from the search index until verified real-family stories replace them.

no. 02 How we write

How we write case studies

Every published case study names the parent, their town, the child's year group, the phone the family chose and the SIM behind it. We interview the parent twice, with a gap of at least three months between the two conversations, so the "first week" account and the "three months in" account come from the same person at two different moments. We do not interview the child. The parent reads the case study back and approves it before it goes up.

We do not invent quotes, statistics or family details. We do not use stock photographs of children's faces. We do not pay families for participation. If a family asks us to remove their case study later, we remove it inside one working day. The full editorial standard is at /editorial-standards; the policies and complaint pathway at /policies.

The single placeholder case study below is clearly badged as such and is excluded from the sitemap and search index. It will be replaced with real, signed-off stories once families come through the process described above. Until then, nothing on this page describes a real family.

If you'd like to put your own family forward as a case study, email hello@knockphone.co.uk with "case study" in the subject line. We will explain how the interview works, what we ask and what we do not ask, and let you decide whether to take part. There is no charge for participation; there is also no fee paid out. Before you decide, the principles page sets out what Knock will and will not do, and the affiliate disclosure covers how we make money on the rest of the site.
